Beds

Once your DUX bed has been delivered, there may be a period of adjustment while your body adapts to your new mattress. As you relax into the DUX spring system your body will gradually become accustomed to a new and different level of support and comfort. Comfort is a very subjective matter (as you may have discovered when choosing a bed from our range); therefore it is difficult to estimate how long it will take for each individual to adapt to this new concept. Some customers may require additional time to adjust to the DUX bed as it is not as firm as more traditional mattresses. In order to protect the sides of your bed from external damage such as staining, it is recommended that you use a base cover or bed skirt.

For the DUX beds which include the Pascal® cassettes system, please see the Pascal section for further information. Please note that if you have purchased a DUX bed with elevation abilities and spend a great deal of time sitting in the same position, you may notice that the section of the bed and the top pad compact slightly in that area. We recommend that you adjust the bed to it is in the original flat, sleeping position when not in use.

Cleaning

The woven cotton ticking can be spot cleaned with upholstery cleaner. We recommend that you use a base cover or bed skirt for your bed to protect your bed.

Pascal

If you have purchased a bed with the Pascal system, these cassettes have different density spring within the cassettes. The placement of these cassettes should correspond to the ratio of body weight and protruding areas.

The usual recommendation is as follows:

  • For men soft cassette under the shoulders, medium cassette under the torso and hip area, and firm Cassette under the lower legs and feet. This enables the shoulders to sink in and the feet to be raised slightly whilst sleeping, assisting circulation.
  • For women the combination is very often different. The medium cassette is placed under the shoulders, the slightly softer cassette under the hips, and the firmer cassette under the lower legs and feet.

These are the recommended positions for the Cassettes and we would advise you to keep them in this setting to achieve the maximum level of support and comfort. However, body shapes and body weights differ and you may find a different combination more suitable.

Cleaning

The cover, removed from the latex, can be dry cleaned. However as the cover is made of cotton it may shrink up to 6% upon the first clean.

Top pad

Comfort and Comfort Plus Top pads

The Comfort and Comfort plus top pads are made with a centre of atex, and with an outer layer of wool. It’s covered with a woven cotton ticking. To prolong the life of the top pad, we recommend that you turn it regularly both from the head end to the foot end as well as from side to side. We recommend that you replace it every 5-7 years to keep your bed feeling like new.

The Comfort and Comfort plus top pads are compatible with all DUX bed bases. When first delivered, the Comfort and Comfort plus top pads are slightly smaller than the bed base but will spread within a few months.

Cleaning

The Comfort and Comfort plus top pads are not suitable for either washing or dry-cleaning but can be spot-cleaned. We advise a Protective Mattress Cover to keep your top pad fresh.

DUX Protective Mattress Cover

Cleaning

The protective mattress cover can be washed in 60 degrees. Shrinkage up to 5–10% may occur after washing, when it is still wet, stretch the cover back into shape.

Dry

Do not tumble-dry. This will increase the shrinkage and tear on the elastic corner straps.

Legs

Our legs are delivered with a M8 screw attached to the leg. If you want to protect your hardwood floors, use the felt pad that comes along with the legs. Over time the legs may loosen and require re-screwing into the base. Please be careful not to cross-thread the screw when carrying out this procedure.

Wooden Legs

This is a genuine wood product, designed and produced with selected solid beech or solid oak wood that is either in it’s natural finish, stained finish or painted finish. Wipe clean with a damp cloth, avoid sunlight, avoid direct contact with water.

Leather Covered Legs

Our leather legs are made from solid wood and covered in a leather. Clean the leather two to four times a year with a special leather cleaning product, then impregnate with a protective cream to give a smooth and dirt-repellent surface.

For waxed leather, use special Pull Up Cream. It removes any scratches and other marks and gives the leather a deep sheen. Remember to clean the leather first.

DUX Headboards Caring

All DUX headboards are specifically designed for use on a DUX bed. The headboards are easy to install and can be removed if necessary. Please note that the adjustable Faruk headboard must be treated with care. For the manual Faruk headboard model, when pulling the straps to adjust the backrest, please use both straps and allow it to click gently through the height options before coming to rest at the preferred angle. Moving the backrest too quickly or wrenching it into position can cause the ratchets to bend and it will cease to function properly. If you do experience any problems with your headboard please contact us for advice.

Cleaning

Fabric Covered Headboards
Upholstered headboards can be spot-cleaned using upholstery cleaner. If you have purchased a headboard with a loose cover then this can be removed and dry-cleaned, however depending on the fabric they may be a small degree of shrinkage. Please note that it is possible to purchase additional loose covers to most of our headboards. We offer a wide range of fabrics to choose from.

DUX base covers and bed skirts cleaning

We recommend dry-cleaning on all DUX base covers and bed skirts. Some of our fabrics can sustain wash in a regular washing machine; however, one should be aware that a degree of 5–10% of shrinkage and misfitting of the product may occur.

Ironing

Always make sure that the fabric can be ironed on. Most of our cotton fabrics can withstand ironing on medium heat. Ironing of the bed skirt will ensure that it drapes nicely over the bed.

Please note that it is possible to purchase additional base covers and bed skirts. We offer a wide range of fabrics to choose from.

Linen

Cleaning

All our bed linen can be either dry-cleaned or machine washed at 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit). If you have selected a range with satin finish, ironing is needed to retain its primary finish. All our bed linen is 100% cotton and therefore has a natural shrinkage of approximately 3–4%.

Dry

We don’t recommend tumble-dry on our bed linen because it tears the cotton fibers. We recommend hang-drying to minimise wrinkles.

Iron/Mangling

Iron on medium heat. If you have selected a range with satin finish, ironing is needed to retain its primary finish. Mangling is not recommended because of the buttons.

DUX Xleep pillow

Cleaning

To keep your DUX Xleep pillow fresh you can wash the outer down pillow in 60 degrees Celsius (140 degrees Fahrenheit). The inner pillow contains our spring system and is not suitable for washing.

Dry

As with any other down product it needs tumble-dry after washing. We recommend that you

tumble-dry the outer down pillow with, for example tennis balls, so that the down doesn’t lump up. The outer down pillow can also be replaced if necessary.

The spring system allows the pillow to retain its original shape and elasticity year after year and to feel extra cool and comfortable.

Down

Some simple advice

Our products are all made from selected down and feather of the highest quality, which can last for many years if you treat them correctly. With a few simple maintenance tips, you can help keep your duvet or pillow fresh and clean.

  1. When you wake up in the morning, there is still moisture left in the duvet and pillow. Let them “steam off” before putting on the bedspread.
  2. Turn the duvet at least once a week head-to-toe, and always shake the duvet from different sides, otherwise the filling will move sideways.
  3. Air both duvet and pillow regularly - never vacuum or knock them.
  4. Wash ONLY one duvet (140 × 200 / 220cm) or two pillows at a time. Use washing machine with a capacity of min. 7 kg. Wash on gentle program, with high water level and low drum rotation. Double duvets should be washed in a suitable laundry. The vast majority of our duvets are washable at 60 degrees, however please check individual care instructions for specific details on your product, to avoid damage.
  5. If your duvet or pillow needs stain cleaning, it is best done with a hard-wrung sponge.
  6. Always use a special detergent for down washing WITHOUT enzymes. NEVER use fabric softener. Improper detergent or rinse aid can damage the down.
  7. Tumble dry the duvet or pillow after washing. Choose the most gentle spin.
  8. Duvets and pillows with down and feathers should always be dried in a dryer together with a couple of tennis balls, directly after washing, otherwise the down will clump together and mold may form. Dry at approx. 60 ºC in the dryer. The drying process takes a long time, 3 to 5 hours, depending on the capacity of the tumbler. The duvet and pillow must be completely dry, including the fine down inside. They must not in any way feel humid and must never be exposed to direct sun light.

Weigh-wash-tumble dry-weigh

The weight of the duvet or pillow when you have finished the washing and drying process, should be the same or slightly less from the weight you started with. This will ensure that the product is completely dry.

  • Don’t place the piece of furniture close to a source of heat.

  • Regularly vacuum clean or brush with a soft brush.

  • Puff up the cushions regularly and turn them now and then.

  • Avoid direct sunlight.

  • Use a dry brush to clean.

  • Dry-clean textiles. Follow the recommended instructions for care.
