Presenting the past, present and future of DUX at 3daysofdesign

During June, more than XXX visitors passed through an exhibition exploring the evolution of the DUX and DUXIANA brands. Held as part of 3daysofdesign in Copenhagen, the event offered guests an up-close look at the heritage and foundation of DUX design, our current collections, and the forthcoming developments shaping our future.

Over a year of preparations went into planning an event that was more than 100 years in the making. As part of our centenary celebrations, DUX took over the ground floor of Copenhagen’s legendary Hotel d’Angleterre, bringing visitors on a journey through our brand’s past, present and future.

“This exhibition was the culmination of a lot of hard work from a lot of people,” says Henrik Ljung, CEO, DUX & DUXIANA. “I was excited that we could use this opportunity to really bring the DUX story to life for our customers and partners, and I hope what we presented was as inspiring for them as it was for us.”

He adds: “None of this would have been possible without the incredible collaboration we had with Hotel d’Angleterre. Their team very supportive of our needs, and it’s great to see what can happen when two historic Scandinavian names come together.”

The past

The exhibition’s first room brought visitors face-to-face with DUX history, taking them past a timeline of key moments, and into a gallery filled with iconic DUX designs. These included examples of the USA 75 lounge chair (1953-1969), the Playboy 2-seater (1968-1982) and the Avanti wall system (1980-1992), as well as original prototypes of Bruno Mathsson’s legendary Jetson easy chair (1966-today). There was also a somewhat unusual centrepiece.

“In the middle of the room, we had five older DUX mattresses from different eras,” explains Oscar Ljung. “Some were well-used DUX beds that had passed from family member to family member. When it came time to get rid of them, their owners didn’t have the heart to throw them away, so sent them back to us at DUX! We wanted to show these not only to illustrate how our spring technology has evolved over time, but also how the longevity and comfort of our mattresses is something appreciated by generations of customers.”

The present

From the history gallery, visitors were directed into the Hotel d’Angleterre’s enormous Palm Court atrium. Here, a guided path took them past a display of items representing the full scope of today’s DUX and DUXIANA collections: from the Sustainable Comfort bed , to chairs and easy chairs, sofas and tables. Elsewhere in the exhibition, customers could also get a close look at the four special edition pieces released this year to mark the brand’s centenary.

The future

At the centre of the atrium, under a XX-by-XX DUX centenary emblem that was hand-sculpted for the occasion, guests were treated to a glimpse of where the brand will go in the coming years. This included a first look at three new collections that will soon join our product range around the globe.

The Outdoor Collection – unparalleled DUX comfort, designed for outdoor living

We are taking our unique approach to ergonomic support outside, with a new modular furniture collection that reimagines how exterior spaces can be experienced. Visitors to the 3daysofdesign exhibition were among the first to explore what can happen when we combine our legendary spring technology with fabrics and materials designed to withstand the elements.

Lova by DUX – a new design partnership for perfect harmony

Danish designer Johannes Thorpe first conceived of this sofa system during a deeply personal moment that shaped the furniture’s form as well as its name. What began in heartbreak has been reframed by time as a promise, or “lova” in Swedish. His unique modular sofa enters a new chapter through a partnership with DUX, harmonising Thorpe’s meticulous aesthetic with our Pascal spring technology.

The Fine Collection – evolving the sleep environment

In a separate room of the exhibition, visitors could explore a new range of accessories that extends our commitment to living – and sleeping – well. The first roll-out of the Fine Collection will include linen for exquisite sleep, down duvets and pillows in a variety of seasonal weights, and scents that imbue the home with tranquillity and serenity.

More information on all three collections will be available soon. Follow our social channels to find out more.
